The classic southern cocktail.
Take a few mint leaves (about 8-10) and place them in the bottom of a silver julep cup or a sturdy glass.
Gently muddle the mint leaves to release their oils and aromas. Be careful not to over-muddle and crush the leaves, as it can make the drink bitter.
Add the simple syrup to the cup and continue to muddle, ensuring the mint leaves and syrup are well combined.
Fill the cup with crushed ice, packing it tightly.
Pour the bourbon over the ice, allowing it to flow through the ice and mix with the mint and syrup.
Stir the mixture gently to incorporate the flavors and ensure even chilling.
Top off the cup with more crushed ice, forming a mound above the rim.
Garnish your Mint Julep with a sprig of fresh mint, gently placing it near the straw for a fragrant aroma.
