Cosmopolitan Recipe
- 1 ½ parts Grey Goose L’orange vodka
- ½ part Cointreau liqueur
- 1 parts cranberry juice
- ¼ part fresh lime juice
- Cubed ice
- To garnish: orange zest
The Cosmopolitan
The cosmopolitan is generally served at a large cocktail glass, also called a martini glass. Because of this, the drink is mistakenly categorized as a kind of martini.
The usage of citrus flavored vodka as the basis for this particular cocktail appears to have been widely found in the mid 1990s by Dale DeGroff and is used in the IBA approved recipe. But many bartenders continue to utilize a typical unflavored vodka and this option would undoubtedly be historically consistent with any of the assumed predecessors of the beverage that were popular in Ohio, Provincetown, or even Minneapolis during the 1970s, or even at San Francisco during the 1980s. A lemon twist is sometimes used to garnish.
