Kraken Rum history
Learning more about this delicious black rum
Finally, something that I actually know and am familiar with! Kraken has a delightfully bold taste, with hints of black licorice and cinnamon. It comes in a bottle with handles on either side, which was an old Victorian style of bottle.
Being fond of this drink myself, I couldn’t wait to write about the Kraken rum history. So follow along to see a brief breakdown of everything I’ve picked up so far.
Kraken Rum history
If you check out the website for Kraken, there’s a fun little video they have up, though it’s authenticity can easily be questioned (the video states this happened at some point ‘during history.’) According to the video, a long time ago there was a ship headed to Norway that was attacked by the legendary beast itself, the Kraken. Though the crew fought bravely, the monster eventually destroyed the ship, killing everyone on board; a single barrel of rum survived, badly stained by black ink.
Later, the barrel of rum was taken to the queen of Norway (it likely washed up on the beach.) When she tasted the rum, the queen said “Though I am quite fearful of the rum’s ominous complexion, I’m helplessly attracted to it’s rich oakiness, and exotic notes of ginger, cinnamon and clove.) And to honor those who died in the attack, the rum was colored black and named ‘Kraken.’
Now that we’ve established that, let’s look at some more believable Kraken rum history. The base rum for the beverage is from Trinidad, and distilled using molasses (like most rum.) It’s then aged and infused with spices to give it it’s flavor. Kraken was introduced in 2010 by Proximo Spirits. And that, folks, is the Kraken Rum history. Good, right?

Unfortunately, you can only use this service if you’re 21 or over. Saucey is very careful about making sure we operate within the parameters of the law. ID checks are necessary for every single delivery. Your delivery person will use a scanner to check your driver’s license, passport, or state-issued ID card. Your delivery will be given to you once your age has been verified via identification scan. Once that’s done, now you’re ready to drink your whiskey.
