Rebel Yell history
It’s a bourbon, not a song
Personally, I’ve ever had this one before. And if you say the same thing, I can’t say I blame you; it’s not something you see wherever you go. But then again, perhaps I should be giving it a chance after reading the history. But, before we run out to the liquor store, let’s learn a bit more about it.
Rebel Yell history
It wouldn’t get it’s name for a long time. WIlliam Larue Weller decided to try using wheat instead of rye for whiskey in 1849, to see if it would impart a lighter flavor than most American whiskeys at the time. And in 1910, they merged with the Stitzel distilling company to become the Stitzel-Weller distilling company. This was the company that would eventually create Rebel Yell.
Rebel Yell history is steeped in the state of Kentucky. Charles R. Farnsley, who was a former Kentucky mayor, was the one who actually made the Rebel Yell brand. He made it with the idea of distilling and releasing it in only small batches. The idea was for it to be distributed exclusively in the southern United States area. However, years later the Stitzel-Weller distilling company broke up, and the company was eventually acquired by Luxco.
Here’s another Rebel Yell history fun-fact. It is said that the Billy Idol song of the same name was inspired by a moment where the man himself joined a couple members of the Rolling Stones in taking turns drinking straight from a bottle of Rebel Yell. Billy Idol himself mentioned this in a VH1 interview.
