Russian Standard Vodka History
The self-proclaimed standard for vodka everywhere!
I’ve seen Russian Standard on the liquor shelves many times as I browsed the aisles at the store. But I never bought it, mostly because I’m not a big fan of vodka (prefer whisky when it comes to liquor.) However, learning the Russian Standard vodka history was still pretty interesting, and now I get to pass what I learned on to you!
The Russian Standard vodka history
Started in 1998, this brand was introduced to the world by the Russian Standard company, owned by Roustam Tariko. The timing was excellent too, since the Russian market was developing fast after the fall of the Soviet Union. This made it a perfect time for Russian Standard to make it’s stamp as a brand. It was a new moment in Russian Standard vodka history!
According to their own website, the inspiration for this brand of vodka came from the creator of the Periodic Table, Dmitri Mendeleev. They used his philosophy on the principle of equilibrium, and inspired by it, strove for the perfect balance between alcohol and water. Interestingly enough, Russian Standard is produced in St. Petersburg, the hometown of Mendeleev. The water is derived from glacial water found in Lake Ladoga. The winter wheat comes from the Russian Steppes. And finally, Russian Standard claims that the product passes through their distillation process over 200 times. That’s right…two hundred. Must be some REALLY clean vodka!
And there you have it; the Russian Standard vodka history! Hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!
