Alize History

Alize history

The backstory for this infamour liquor

To be perfectly honest, I had never heard of Alize before writing this. I’ve never tasted it in my life, and may have seen it on a bar’s shelves at some point. But, at some point, I need to try it. My research into it’s history certainly has me curious about the exotic’sounding taste and flavors! So, let’s get right into the Alize history.

From nothing to something big

Alize was introduced in 1984, at the Wine and Spirits Wholesalers of America convention, down in New Orleans. The word itself means ‘a gentle wind’ in the French language; an appropriate title! According to their own website, each flavor begins with a blend of passion fruit along with fine French vodka. The different flavors come from the fruit infusions that are added later. This is the much the same way that some brands of kombucha or mead flavor their drinks.

The Alize history didn’t take off much for a while. Their Gold Passion line, when introduced to USA, was originally meant to cater to middle-aged white women. However, this marketing didn’t appear to be very successful. That is, until they decided to cut the price down by about 1/3rd. Also, for all you Tupac fans out there, Alize was featured in his music video ‘Thug Passion,’ where it not only appears but is specifically mentioned.

It seems the Alize history might not be long, or full of German immigrants realizing their dream. But it’s interesting nevertheless!
