A green tea shot is whiskey, peach schnapps, sour mix and a splash of lemon-lime soda. This is the version without the sour mix, using fresh citrus and simple syrup instead.
One change from the earlier version of this page. It sold the drink on going down fast and easy, and closed by telling you to throw it back and keep the shaker going. Ease of drinking is not a selling point for a spirit-based shot, so that framing is gone. The recipe is unchanged.
What is actually in it
No green tea, and no caffeine. The name comes from the colour and the sweet-citrus profile, which resemble a bottled iced green tea. The base is whiskey with peach schnapps.
Worth knowing before you pour: this is two spirits in one shot glass. A green tea shot is not a light drink because it does not taste like one. Count it as a full standard drink, and closer to one and a half if you pour generously.
Making the sour mix substitute
Squeeze a quarter lime and a quarter lemon into a glass, add a tablespoon of simple syrup, stir. That is the substitution. It will not give you the yellow-green colour that commercial sour mix does, because the colour comes from the mix rather than from anything else in the glass.

- 1 part peach schnapps
- 1 splash lemon-lime soda
- ¼ lemon juiced
- ¼ lime juiced
- 1 tbsp simple syrup

Combine whiskey, peach schnapps, lemon juice, lime juice, and simple syrup in your cocktail shaker.

Shake vigorously for 10 seconds.

Using a strainer, pour your shot glasses around ¾ full with the mixture, leaving room at the top.
