This stuff started as a patent medicine and a tonic, created by Angelo Mariani in 1863. He got pretty curious and decided to make a product based around Cocoa. This curiosity was stoked by a paper written by Paolo Mantegazza, written about the health effects of ingesting coca. Therefore, he began to market his wine as Vin Tonique Mariani, made by a mix of Bordeaux wine and cocoa leaves.
Interestingly enough, this wine used to contain cocaine. That’s because the ethanol in the wine extracted it from the coca leaves. However, Mariani made sure that each bottle contained around 7.2 mg of cocaine per ounce, in order to compete with the higher amounts that were in American drinks at the time. Vin Mariani was originally marketed as a drink that ‘would restore strength, health, energy and vitality.’
The Vin Mariani history continues with it being popular among even royalty, as well as common folk. In fact, the drink was even enjoyed by none other than Ulysses S. Grant himself! In fact, it was also enjoyed by Thomas Edison!

ID checks are necessary for every single delivery. Your delivery person will use a scanner to check your driver’s license, passport, or state-issued ID card. Your delivery will be given to you once your age has been verified via identification scan. Once that’s done, now you’re ready to drink your whiskey.
