Coors History

Coors history

One that everyone’s familiar with

As the subheading says, this is a brand of beer that everyone’s familiar with. Hearing the beer’s name brings to thought memories of their infamous ‘silver bullet’ commercials, which depict the aptly-named train speeding through cold weather. Coors is pretty much on par with Budweiser as far as popularity goes; you see it everywhere, and no other beer has the power to go toe-to-toe with the ‘king of beers’ the way it can.

People may think of it as a bargain beer, but it has quite the lineage behind it. And for the sake of those of you who are interested, I’m going to go over the Coors history.

Coors history

The big name behind the start of this brand, is a german immigrant named Adolph Coors. He, along with Jacob Schueler, moves to the USA in 1873 and opened a brewery in Colorado. Later on in 1880, Coors bought Schueler out and became the sole owner.

Coors survived the infamous prohibition period because it became not just a brewery, but a manufacturing company beforehand. In fact, one of the things they produced was malted milk, much of which was sold to the Mars candy company.

Because Coor’s was only sold in western USA until much later, it became a desirable rarity in the east side and mid-west. In fact, there’s an entire movie about an illegal shipment of Coors eastern-bound, called ‘Smokey and the Bandit.’

Coors was the first brewing company to use an entirely-aluminum can, starting this trend back in 1959. And much later in 2005, Coors joined forces with the Canadian brewery Molson, the company becoming the Molson Coors brewing company. (Fun fact: I know many Canadians who think that Molson makes better beer than Coors, not realizing they’re the same company.) And that’s the Coors history (the abridged version!)
