Makes 1
10 fresh mint leaves, plus 1 sprig for garnish
Ice
1 1/2 ounces white rum
3/4 ounce freshly squeezed lime juice
3/4 ounce simple syrup
Crushed ice
Club soda, preferably chilled
What is a Mojito?
Traditionally, the mojito recipe is made up of five components: white rum, sugar (traditionally sugar cane juice), lime juice, soda, water, and mint. The first Cuban recipe employs spearmint or yerba buena, a mint number very popular on the staircase. It is mix of sweetness, citrus, and mint tastes is meant to match the rum, also has made the mojito a favorite summer drink. The cocktail has a relatively low alcohol content (roughly 10 percent alcohol by volume).
The mix is then gently mashed with a muddler. The mint leaves must just be bruised to release the vital oils and shouldn’t be shredded. Subsequently rum is added and the mix is temporarily awakened to dissolve the sugar and also to raise the mint leaves upward from the ground for greater demonstration. At length, the beverage is topped with crushed ice and sparkling soda water. Mint leaves and lime wedges are utilized to garnish the glass.
