Prague: Your Next Stop

Known as home of the most picturesque architectural landmarks in all of Europe, their delicious traditional Bohemian cuisine, and an abundance of beer halls, say hello to Prague. There’s so much more to this well-loved city, especially when it comes to their rich theatrical scenes and lively entertainment. Each attraction is waiting to be explored, starting with our favorite noms.

1. TRDELNÍK – CHIMNEY CAKE

Crispy warm dough roasted over an open flame and filled with a gooey chocolate center – worth every penny, every calorie, and no regrets. And guess what? These delicious pastries can be found in trdelník stands across the city, and range just $1.80-$2.00 USD a piece.

2. SVÍČKOVÁ – BEEF IN CREAM SAUCE

This traditional Sunday family dinner dish consists of marinated sirloin beef, root vegetable and cream sauce, served with bread dumplings, cranberry sauce and whipped cream. It’s the ultimate comfort food and something tells me you’ll love it too.

3. PÁREK V ROHLÍKU

What’s Czech fast food? The short answer is the hot dog. Topped with sweet pickle, sweet onion, tarragon and all the colorful condiments, it’ll leave you wanting more. In this case, Fish & Chips 21 Dlouha Street knows what’s up. And because you can’t truly enjoy a meal without a good beverage, let’s chat about…

4. CZECH BEER

It dates back to 993 where brewing was primarily done at monasteries since the Czechs were banned from this practice for 250 years. Yikes. Fast forward to 1948, many breweries were forced to close and production was severely restricted during the communist era. The positive? Many of these breweries preserved their old fashion techniques for brewing, passed down for generations.

It’s no secret Czechs know beer and do it very well. It’s tradition that most people consume a glass right before noon. Inexpensive to purchase and contains healthy agents that are rich in Vitamin B – who wouldn’t? For a quick Czech beer fix, you can order it through Saucey. I personally enjoy Pilsner Urquell for its frothy flavor with the aroma of yeast, and a soft rising bread flavor with hits of citrus and floral notes (4.4% ABV)

If you’re not typically a beer drinker, a visit to Prague might change your mind. Strahov Monastic Pivovar dates back to the 17th century, and continues to brew beer using their original, traditional recipes. It doesn’t get any better than the real deal. 🙂
