The countdown to St. Patrick’s Day is officially on. It’s time to let loose, indulge in some Irish-themed shenanigans, and most importantly, drink a LOT. From green beer to Irish whiskey, there’s no shortage of drinks to choose from, and with a bit of luck of the Irish, you may even find a pot of gold at the end of your boozy rainbow.
Whether you have Irish roots or not, there’s something special about this holiday that brings people together and creates a firm sense of camaraderie. So what better way to make some seasonal memories than with St. Patrick’s Day drinking games? Grab a pint, wear your greenest attire, and let the good times roll.
Irish hour
As the name suggests, the game has only one rule: drink every hour on the hour. It may sound straightforward, but the challenge lies in seeing how long each player can stay in the race. Keeping up with the hourly pace becomes increasingly tricky as the night progresses. It’s recommended to pace yourself for this one, as it’s easy to get out of hand pretty fast here.
Irish poker
If you’re looking for a game that combines luck and strategy, look no further. This classic drinking game is perfect for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, as it requires nothing more than a deck of cards and a willingness to have fun. The rules are simple: one player acts as the dealer and deals four cards face down on the table. Each player then takes turns guessing whether the first card is red or black, with a correct answer allowing them to nominate someone to drink. But be careful – if you guess wrong, you have to take a shot yourself. The game continues in a clockwise direction until everyone is sufficiently tipsy.
St Patrick says
Just like the classic Simon Says, but replace Simon with St Patrick. If someone hits a movement wrong, they have to drink. Playing memory games is a bit evil when there’s drinking involved, but the winner will get to have some serious bragging rights when they take the crown.
Irish beer pong
Beer pong, but make it Irish. All you have to do is swap out the regular beer for green beer. To set up the game, arrange 10 cups in a pyramid shape at each end of the table, and fill the cups about a third of the way with beer. The cups should be arranged in a triangle formation, with the point of the triangle facing the opposing team. Then the two teams stand at opposite ends of the table and take turns trying to throw ping-pong balls into their opponent’s cups. If a ball lands in a cup, the opposing team must drink the beer from that cup and remove it from the table. When no more cups are left, the winner gets the luck of the Irish.
Whether celebrating with an intimate group of friends or throwing a rager, these games will add some extra flare and excitement to your St Patrick’s day. The top three rules for all of the games are to drink responsibly, stay hydrated, and know your limits—happy St. Patrick’s Day.
