Three years ago, filmmaker Geoffrey Fletcher launched Bombay Sapphire’s “Imagination Series” at the Tribeca Film Festival. Fletcher who is known for his Oscar-winning screenplay Precious has become the ambassador for the series and firmly believes in the power of imagination as well as embracing the diversity of different perspectives. His choice to work with Bombay Sapphire came from the mutual appreciation of imagination and the extraordinary ability to unlock unique points of view in everyone.
Stripped of any stage direction, Geoffrey Fletcher wrote an original short and asked filmmakers around the world to contribute their vision for his script. Using the exact same script, the five most imaginative film entries were selected, produced and premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2013. In total, 34 countries contributed work and has fueled the imaginations of future filmmakers for next year’s series. The short Room 8 went on to become the first winner of the film series contest, which you can check out below.
With the addition of Adrien Brody on the judging panel the second Imagination Series Film Competition is now underway and will continue to discover new talent with the continued goal of sparking the imaginations of filmmakers and lovers.
